Eleven million children died
last year before they reached their fifth birthday.
That's as if every child under five living
in the United Kingdom, France and Germany died
in a single year. It's hard to imagine.
Why did these children die? Could their deaths
have been prevented? For the vast majority
of these little girls and boys, the
answer is, tragically, YES.
Over 98% of
the children under five who died last year
lived in developing countries. In other words,
these little boys and girls died because
they were poor.
For the vast majority
of these children, their lives could have
been saved by simple things that most of
us take for granted - regular
nutritious meals, access to clean water, inoculation
from disease, and a safe place to live.
Children's Hunger Relief Fund seeks
to provide the "simple things" that keep children
alive:
We serve an average
of 3 million nutrious meals a year.
We sponsor immunization programs to inoculate
children from diseases that could otherwise
kill them.
We rescue as many orphaned and abandoned
children from the streets as we can take
in.
We develop village clean water projects for rural villages and schools.
